Tracking is shot through windows of commuter trains traveling between Philadelphia and Manhattan.

The central New Jersey route includes bits of forest, swamp, rivers, industrial buildings, decaying homes, new developments, and cityscapes. It is a graveyard of abandoned factories, which once defined the Northeast manufacturing corridor between New York and Washington, D.C.

Shooting through glass alters and complicates these pictures. the motion-blurred landscape, grimy windows, and ghostly reflections from inside combine unexpectedly in mysterious ways. I marvel that fellow passengers find their phones more interesting than the view.  Much has changed since I began this project in 2012. Fewer old buildings and trees still stand, replaced by crowded, Identical housing units.

For me these vistas display the melancholy beauty I find in the most unlikely places – a definition of my artistic point of view.
